Billie Joe Armstrong Frontrunner for President at Rock.com – An “American Idiot” Tops New Poll Sampling Worldwide Opinion
Los Angeles, CA – November 13, 2006 -- The mid-term elections may be over, but voting continues through mid-December in the 1st Annual “You Rock” Awards at Rock.com (http://www.rock.com), the “Official Site of Rock Music™.” In addition to the categories one
might expect for a rock music poll, such as greatest rock band, song, singer, etc., users can
also vote in some unusual categories like best rock star President or rocker they’d like to bring
back from the dead.
“Rather than having another vanilla rock poll, we’ve got a few categories that are just plain fun,”
stated Rock.com founder and CEO, Steve Newman. “Also, our sample size will be huge and
international…a true people’s choice rather than the personal opinions of a few media editors or
producers one usually sees this time of year.”
Early results in the “Best Rock Star President” category put Green Day front man Billie Joe
Armstrong in the lead, which can perhaps be explained by the huge success of his “American
Idiot” album and the political stands he takes in his music. Other interesting categories in the
“You Rock” poll include which bands have the best websites and which benefit the world
community most. The voting is open to all site visitors and continues through mid-December at
which time votes will be tabulated, Top 10 Lists revealed, and the first “You Rock” awards
announced.
“I’m most curious to see which rock star our users would bring back from the dead,” Newman
added. “Right now, it’s pretty much a three way tie among Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, and John
Lennon. I’m partial to Kurt, but the people will decide this one.”
The “You Rock” promotion and other ongoing features represent a unique opportunity for brand
marketers to reach a highly desirable but often elusive market. The new poll and awards
program was co-conceived by Gorilla Nation (http://www.gorillanation.com/2006/), the world’s
largest online ad rep firm, which exclusively represents Rock.com for all site advertising placements. Rock.com is part of GN’s Music vertical market which was recently ranked 3rd
